Hebrews 11 is filled with heroes of faith, those who were far from perfect, but put their faith in the Lord. The list includes Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Moses just to name a few. Each of these people impacted those around them by the way they walked out their faith. They didn’t just talk about being faithful, do studies on faithfulness, or read about how to be faithful, they put their faith into action.
Noah saved his family by following God’s command to build an ark and put his family in it while God flooded the earth. Abraham went where God led Him and ended up being the father of nations. Moses led his people out of slavery in Egypt with God’s help. Each of these people had to have faith in God in order to be obedient to God’s call. Heroes of faith aren’t just from biblical times; there are heroes of faith today, maybe you know some.
Are there people in your life who are walking out their faith and impacting yours? I have a dear friend, who is a hero of faith to me. She has suffered much in the last two months. She lost her dad two days before Christmas, her mom has had a major stroke and cannot talk or walk and her daughter’s engagement was broken off. Any one of these events would be enough to make you want to be in the fetal position and wonder where God is in all of this.
However, she is standing strong. She told me the lesson she feels she has learned through all of this is that God is ultimately in control and she is not. She has to completely submit to the Lord and His plans and let go of her own. She is trusting that His plans are for the best even when she can see it in the moment. She has handled each of these situations with tremendous grace. She has experienced the wonderful presence of the Lord and knows He is giving her the strength she needs each day. Amazingly she praises Him for the peace she feels and she sees Him working in the small things. Now that is a hero of faith!
We all have heroes of faith in our lives whose walk with the Lord is amazing and inspiring. Take some time today to thank the Lord for the impact they have had on your life and your spiritual walk. Then take some time to write them a note and let them know what an inspiration they have been to you and how their faith has strengthened yours. Pray the Lord will work in your life so you can be a hero of faith to someone else.
