I woke up this morning and was full of joy; not happiness, but joy. Joy comes from the Lord and from our relationship with Him.
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
Jesus was telling the disciples if they obey His commands, which is living their lives according His ways and if they “remain in his love”, His joy will be in them. The same is true for us today.
The joy Jesus was talking about has nothing to do with temporary happiness based on your circumstances. You can experience His joy regardless of your circumstances. Living our lives by the leading, guiding and empowering of the Holy Spirit and experiencing His love for us is what allows us to feel His joy.
If your circumstances are anything but joyful, spend a few moments today just thinking about all God has done for you and how much He loves you. He created you, He loved you even before you came to be and His love never changes. He loves you as much today as He did yesterday and will tomorrow; there is nothing you can do to change His love for you. He sent His son, Jesus, to die on a cross so you could have forgivness for your sins. He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within you so you would never be alone. Praise Him and thank Him for His amazing love and feel yourself being filled with His joy!
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
