Today we will look at the unity we are to have in Christ.
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
As believers, we are called to keep unity in the body of Christ. We are called to be peacemakers and it is through the equipping of the Holy Spirit we are able to maintain peace. There is tremendous unity in the body of Christ. We all have the same Spirit dwelling within us to teach, lead, guide, convict and challenge us. We are all called to the same hope of spending eternity with Christ in heaven.
Our eternity is the big picture. We often get distracted by our circumstances and what we are facing in our daily lives. However, when we keep our eyes focused on the Lord and eternity with Him, it is a very different perspective. It helps keep the little disagreements and differences of opinion in check.
Is there peace within your church community? We will not always agree with every decision made within our churches but we need to be careful to not be critical, but rather seek unity and peace. Do you consider yourself a peacemaker? Some people may not see themselves as a peacemaker, however, as a follower of Christ, we are all called to be peacemakers.
What areas of your life do you need to work on being a peacemaker and seeking unity? With whom do you need to seek peace from? Seek the Lord and the guidance of His Holy Spirit to help you be the peacemaker.
