No Trespassing

Do you have a ‘No Trespassing’ sign on part of your life or part of your heart? God wants to be able to search our lives and our hearts in order to help us live the lives He created us to live.

Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.

God created us and knows us better than anyone else. He knows the good, the bad and the ugly and loves us in spite of our flaws and failures. He has things to say to us about how we live our lives but are we willing to listen? Like the ‘No Trespassing’ sign, are there areas of our lives we have deemed ‘Private Property’, even from the Lord?

These may be areas of our lives where we are sinning and don’t want to acknowledge our sin or change it. It may be our finances. Do you spend and save your money the way you want to or do you seek the Lord on what to do with your finances? If we are not seeking Him, we are basically putting up a ‘No trespassing’ sign over that part of our lives.

For some of us, it may be our relationships. Do you seek the Lord about your relationships? Not just who you should or shouldn’t be in relationship with but also how you act in your relationships. Have you asked the Lord to show you what you can do to improve your relationship with that difficult person in your life? Have you heard from the Lord but are unwilling to change the way you treat them?

Perhaps it is the attitude of your heart where you have put a ‘Private Property’ sign. You may treat people well but in your heart you are harboring unforgiveness, anger and bitterness. Is there someone you need to forgive? Remember forgiveness doesn’t mean condoning a behavior or attitude, it means you no longer carry around the anger and disappointment and leave justice to the Lord. Is there anyone in your life you are still angry with and the anger has turned to bitterness? Are you willing to allow the Lord to heal your heart?

The Lord already knows exactly what is going on in our lives and exactly how we feel about people and situations. However, He wants us to ask Him to seek our hearts, thoughts and ways. In doing so, we are humbling ourselves before the Lord. In addition we are acknowledging we need His perspective and desire His will for our lives. Are you courageous enough to seek Him today and put down your ‘No Trespassing’ signs and allow Him to search your heart, thoughts and ways? He will show you what He sees and will use the Holy Spirit to help you see changes you may need to make in your attitudes, words and actions. The first step is asking Him to search you and the next step is to be obedient to what He says. Be courageous today!

  3. What a creative post…Especially since God sees, hears and knows all. Even though we may think we have neatly tucked away He knows. Thank you for the gentle reminder.

    • Jacqueline, thanks for the kind words. The Lord definitely sees and hears everything, even the things we wish He didn’t. How blessed we are He continues to love us. Hopefully we can be reminded to allow Him into every part of our life. Be blessed!

  4. Well written, I could see my actions throughout the words and the need to ask God to search my heart in only the way he can. And to listen to his voice and move forward.
