Here is a poem I wrote about how different things would be if we put our trust in the Lord.
If Only
If only I trusted that I am worthy of love, I wouldn’t let people use and abuse me.
If only I trusted that I was chosen to be a child of God, I wouldn’t dwell so much on the times my earthly father disappointed me or hurt my feelings.
If only I trusted that I am God’s masterpiece, I wouldn’t believe what others have said about my appearance.
If only I trusted that I am holy and dearly loved, I wouldn’t listen to the hurtful comments people have said to me.
If only I believed I was an heir to the King of Kings, I wouldn’t spend so much time and energy trying to acquire material things.
If only I trusted that I belonged to a royal priesthood, I wouldn’t be so worried about fitting in here on earth.
If only I trusted that my sins are forgiven, I wouldn’t spend my time beating myself up over mistakes in the past.
If only I trusted that God had a plan for me and a purpose for my life, I would be willing to step out of my comfort zone and into His.
Shelly, this is fantastic!! Our true identity is what’s been firmly on my heart this week, and this amazing poem says it perfectly (i just have to reblog)! Thanks so much for sharing! God bless, your loving brother, Steve. 🙂
Steve, thanks so much for your kind words. I certainly don’t consider myself a poet, but this particular poem just poured out of me as I was writing a Bible study on trusting the Lord. We definitely need to understand our true identity in order to live into it. Thrilled it spoke to you and hope it does the same for your readers on the reblog!
I love this, Shelly. Thank you. I forget how much He wants and will do for me when I put my trust in Him. Blessings, Cheryl
Cheryl, I am so blessed by your words! It is easy for us to look to the world to tell us who we are but we need to find our identity in Christ and put our trust in Him. Hope you are having a fabulous trip!
Beautiful poem!
Thanks Elizabeth! I am definitely not a poet, but this really just flowed out of me when I was writing the “Trust in the Lord” Bible study.

I was talking to Christian brother Ben shortly before our men’s group on Wednesday about the inner peace of knowing our true identity in Christ, and how we can then apply that truth, comfort and joy into our daily lives. Then loving sister Shelly said it perfectly!! 🙂

Well that was a smack in the face. So needed this today. Thank you for calling us out into His life.
Ted, it is so easy for us to put our trust in ourselves and the world and forget we have a loving Father who wants us to put our trust in Him. Glad it impacted you today. Be blessed!
great poem, it’s just as you put it, trust, trust trust, i can’t say it often enough, where there is distrust, there is disharmony, i’ve lived without trust at times, and it always sold doubt, thanks for
the effort, we are all children of the one God, believing it is the answer to all worries, amen
Bwcarey, thanks for your kind words. Your comments are very spot on – distrust breads disharmony. May we all put our trust in the Lord today. Blessings!

Thanks for the encouragement, Natalie!
Beautifully said Shelly.
Why do we tend to forget to put our full trust in the Lord? It is a constant consideration. If we would just trust God all the time we would probably astound ourselves with what we could accomplish for Him. Blessings to you.
Julie, thanks for your sweet words! It is always amazing to me that we don’t trust Him all the time because we know He is completely trustworthy. However, we do tend to want to do things on our own and in our own way. Blessings!
I’m responding a little late since I’ve been gone, but I just had to comment that I think this poem is great! The Lord inspired you with these words, so that you could pour the words onto paper and your blog, so that the message could be poured into each of our hearts and sent on to bless others. Thanks for being a willing, open vessel and sharing with all of us.
Love to you,
Nelda
Nelda, thanks for your incredibly encouraging words dear friend! It is certainly something the Lord laid on my heart and it literally poured out of me. I love being used by the Lord. Blessings to you, friend!

Patty, thanks! It is amazing what God can say to us when we take the time to listen. Blessings!
I have learned that valuable lesson of “being” in the presence of Jesus – it is a terrific gift.
