Before and after. It is a concept that we often hear about when people are talking change; what they looked like before and after making a change. We have seen lots of before and after pictures of makeovers of people and rooms or homes. This picture was taken before and after a storm hit in Houston.
The before picture shows the storm brewing, the dark clouds moving in along with some soft rolling thunder. Have you ever felt a storm rolling into your life? Perhaps you or a loved one hadn’t been feeling well lately and then the diagnosis comes and the storm hits. Perhaps you had been struggling financially and then you lose your job and the storm hits. Perhaps you have been struggling in a relationship and then there is the fight to end all fights and the storm hits.
Regardless of what kind of storm you may be facing, the difference between the before and after picture can be your relationship with the Lord. We all face storms in our life from time to time but it is the condition of our relationship with the Lord when we enter the storm and what happens to it in the midst of the storm that determines how we weather it.
Spending time with the Lord in prayer and in HIs Word on a regular basis prepares us for the storm. That personal, intimate relationship we develop with the Lord on a daily basis is what will sustain us in the storm. When we choose to seek Him while we are in the storm, we will find Him.
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
The Lord is always there for us and the more we seek Him, the more we will find Him. But when we find ourselves in the storms of our lives, we tend to seek Him more wholeheartedly and find an even greater intimacy with Him.
If we are constantly building our relationship with the Lord then we will be more prepared to face the storms when they come because we know we are not facing them alone. He doesn’t always bring us OUT of the storm by healing us or a loved one, restoring our financial security or even restoring our relationships but He will bring us THROUGH the storm if we continue to seek Him IN the storm. When we do we experience His presence, peace and comfort and we are transformed through the process.
The before picture of our hearts and minds might look like the before picture of the storm brewing above as we enter a difficult season in our lives. However, if we continue to seek Him IN the storm what we look like after the storm will be beautiful because what others will see is Christ at work in and through us. Seek Him in the storm you might be facing today!
