God’s love for us is truly something hard for us to comprehend. His love for us is like no other love we have or ever will experience. We have a hard time understanding His love for us because we don’t love the way He loves.
When it comes to love, our human ability to love is finite, limited and quite frankly pretty fickle and we have a tendency to view God’s love like our own love. But they are vastly different. Our love is based on our feelings but God’s love is based on His nature. His very nature is love.
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
He loved us even before we were born and we were created in His image. God doesn’t wait for us to be be “good enough” for Him to love us; He loves us despite our sinfulness. The word in Greek for God’s love for us is agape. Agape love is sacrificial
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
There is nothing we can do to earn God’s love. It is His free gift to us. It is not based on what we do or don’t do but who He is. It is not based on who who we are but what He has done for us.
We can’t earn God’s love and we can’t change it. We tend to think that the more we do for God, the more we serve or the more ministry we are involved in the more He will love us. However, there is nothing we can do to make God love us more or to make Him love us less because God is a god who does not change.
“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”
We can’t earn God’s love, we can’t change it and thankfully we can’t lose it. God loves us with an everlasting love.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Spend some time today reflecting on the amazing love of our Heavenly Father. Thank Him that His love is more about Him and what He has done that who we are or anything we have done. Thank Him that we can’t earn, change or lose His love.
